Press Release:

Transnomis Collaborates with the Government of the Northwest Territory to Launch DriveNWT, a Cutting-Edge Traveler Information System

September 3, 2024

(Yellowknife — September 3, 2024) Transnomis is proud to announce the successful launch of DriveNWT, the Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) new traveler information system, built on Transnomis’ advanced ITS Central platform. This innovative system improves how residents, travelers, and industry access critical travel information across the vast expanse of the Northwest Territories.

DriveNWT replaces the previous highway conditions map with a modern, user-friendly interface, offering real-time updates on road conditions, construction zones, weight restrictions, ferry and ice crossing statuses, and more. The system's public portal seamlessly integrates with the authorities’ portal, ensuring that any updates made by operators are instantly reflected for public users.

"With DriveNWT, we are transforming the way residents and industry access travel information in the Northwest Territories. This new system empowers travelers to make informed decisions and improves the overall travel experience across our territory," states Caroline Wawzonek, Minister of Infrastructure, GNWT.

The new system covers an impressive area of over a million square kilometers, offering unparalleled situational awareness and enhanced safety for all users. Key features include access to images from 12 new highway cameras, detailed travel advisories, and integration with advanced devices such as thermistors. These tools not only aid the public in planning safer journeys but also provide GNWT with valuable data to inform transportation planning and maintenance.

"Working on the DriveNWT project has been an incredible journey" says Yeatland Wong, Director of Project Deliverability, Smart Mobility of Transnomis. "It’s more than just about enhancing traveler information—this system plays a crucial role in the daily lives of residents and the commercial transport sector. In a region where travel can be a matter of life and death, providing real-time, reliable information is essential. I’m proud of our collaboration with GNWT and Ramudden Digital to deliver a solution that covers over a million square kilometers, truly making a difference in this vast territory."
